bridalNEXT! 2016 - The Rock n Roll Bride Award

Established in 2012, bridalNEXT! is an initiative set up by Most Curious to support and promote fresh, fashion-led, new and innovative talent in the bridal industry. Not only launching them into the spotlight, we are also bringing them straight to the creative, stylish and cool loving brides and grooms.
AND A SELECT FEW WILL BE RECEIVING THE 2016 ROCK ‘N ROLL BRIDE AWARD! (here's VELVET JOHNSTONE receiving her award for winning the BRIDAL WEAR Category last year).

To propel our bridalNEXT!ers firmly into the spotlight, there will be a special Rock 'n Roll Bride Award, given for possessing big-time innovation and directional qualities, chosen by the candy hair coloured, expressive wedding queen herself Kat Williams, founder of the internationally famous and respected Rock 'n Roll Bride blog and magazine. There are two categories, BRIDAL WEAR and SERVICES, and a winner and runner up in each.

Who is she gonna chose?

BRIDAL WEAR

DANA DALLAL BRIDAL

Dana has held a range of positions within some of the top London design houses before setting up her own label. Faced with preparing for her own wedding, she was initially shocked to find how few modern, directional dress options there were for brides who love fashion. And thus, DANA DALLAL BRIDAL was born, just this year.

JUNO FROCKS are branching out into bridal, which is good news if you like a corseted, couture or theatrical or tailored kind of vibe, as these guys earned their stripes as costume makers for period dramas on TV and movies. They also specialise in LBGT bridal (and groomal) type wear, with a little historical/steam punk thrown in!

Having trained as a jeweller & silversmith for over seven years, FIONA MCCLEAR has developed her own signature, illustrative style, working exclusively with precious metals.  She loves origami and paper-cut puppetry and these influence her delicate style.

Founder Natascha Chambers made her own dream wedding dress (picture attached), with materials costing £34! So based on that, she believes that  'Bridal' doesn't have to mean ' crazy expensive, and we try and help our brides find more economical ways of making their dreams come true (cheaper fabrics, and adjusting the designs to reduce labour time and therefore cost). Plus a t-shirt range with slogans like #bridesquad and #bridezilla!

TUGTIES is a new, hackney-based brand specialising in playfully designed handmade bow ties. TUGTIES is specifically popular among grooms who want to bring an alternative touch to their special day,’ says founder Tugcan Dokmen.

Hand painted, custom wedding shoes by artist Alex. Completely bespoke to the couple - from Dinosaurs to roses, you choose!

Ayesha Redmond-Smith is a jewellery and accessories designer, who works predominantly in textiles. Ayesha designs vintage and vintage inspired pieces, combining vintage fabrics and lace with more contemporary fabrics.

Ayesha's inspiration comes from period styling and the majority of her work is inspired  by the pleating in Edwardian Ruff Collars. Her bridal accessories include necklaces, cuffs, sashes, headpieces and more.

Unique handmade glass homeware, terrariums and planters and geometric glasswear. MONTI by Monti are makers of a new type of wedding centre piece and  a fresh approach to including greenery in your decor.

Maria Framis of UBYME is a young architect from Barcelona living and working in London. The fan of home decoration, packaging and handmade products, now turns her design eye to a new breed of decorations.

From head chef in a Hackney Cafe, YOLK, has a truly bespoke attitude to her cakes, tailored to each couple, with taste and ingredients equally important as beautiful style.

SASSY ALA MODE are a super styling sister duo from Central Florida who are based both there and London, bringing that fresh, poppy, slick vibe we know the US does so well in wedding worlds.

A brand new company, FOX AND OWL'S approach towards photography is that of storytellers, blending into the background in order to capture your day as naturally as possible in their signature, contemporary and considered style. And with an elegant, modern, simplistic approach to their design, Fox & Owl aim to deliver stationary that is a celebration of your identities and personalities as well as a reflection of your big day.

A fashion designer for 8 years, SINCERELY MAY has worked for some of the top brands and companies within the UK & Australia, where she developed her love of design and colour. After getting married in May 2012 and designing all of the stationery and decor for the big day, her wedding was featured in 'You & Your Wedding' magazine and she's since been asked me to design the stationery for their wedding & hen parties for friends, which has lead to Sincerely May.

BLOSSOM AND CRUMB make cakes for happy days.  The wedding cakes, dessert tables and sweet treats are designed in close consultation with clients by Megan in South East London. They use the best available ingredients to make great tasting flavours which range from classic to cutting edge alongside creating a unique centrepiece for the big day.

WAGTAIL PRODUCTIONS

Ayla of WAGTAIL PRODUCTIONS has always been obsessed with taking photographs, even as a child. This love of photography and documenting her life evolved into a love of videography and you will see a huge range of styles in her films. Take a look at their show reel and you will see super 8mm vintage looks, reportage, stop motion animation, split screen fun, and classic cinema. They easily adapt to the vibes of the individual couple and the atmosphere of the day. With a background in TV, music videos and big feature films, they demonstrate their understanding of story telling and camera language in each individual film. Like this little vid.

My favourite wedding photo by LEE GARLAND PHOTOGRAPHY

With just a few days to go before our London show we want to share a very special photograph with you chosen by our London sponsor, Lee Garland Photography.

We asked Lee to pick his most favourite wedding photograph and tell us why he loves it.

Lee has sent us a couple sharing a sweet, touching moment and some very simple and beautiful words to explain why it is special to him.

Lee says:

“This shot was from Alison and Ian’s wedding day at the Battersea Arts Centre. It wasn’t long afterwards that the building was gutted by fire.

You really never know what the future holds. Do what you feel in your heart is right, enjoy every moment, hold one another close.

“In short measures, life may perfect be”, Ben Johnson.

I’m really looking forward to Most Curious, and to meeting all the industry folk and wonderful couples brought together by such a unique show.
I’ll be there, with my photography and my vintagebooth.me and I can’t wait.”

We can't wait to see Lee's stand this weekend, apparently he's been sawing away at copper and wood so sounds like he has big plans!!

If you haven't got your tickets already peeps, now is the TIME! Even if you think you don't like wedding fairs, Most Curious is the one that will most definitely change your mind!

We hope to see you there!

BUSH & WOOD - Our 2016 show styling theme couldn't be more perfect for the lovers!

Each year, MOST CURIOUS styles the show itself as one big trend prediction for the year's hippest weddings, and the 2016  theme has been revealed as BUSH & WOOD. Say no more...

The show's founder and creative director Becky Hoh-Hale will be working with an amazing team, the creme de la creme of the UK's wedding suppliers to ensure inspiring installations provide the visiting couples with ideas and squealy moments throughout the 2016 show spaces, not just from the exhibitors themselves but the venue too, from the show entrance to the catwalk and everything in between.

'We scour interiors magazine, the coolest shops and favourite lifestyle and fashion mags to decide what is hot right now in terms of space design and styling,' explains Hoh-Hale,' We are by no means restricted to the world of weddings, we want to be the pioneers and the trail blazers in the industry so we have to look beyond what is already happening. It's a lot of fun, we love it.'

So this year we have One Flew Over florists putting the bush into our bush and wood!
This girl boss duo have the perfect vibe for the style, I mean.. look at some snaps from their insta!

Palette and reclaimed timber furniture makers and hirers Gas & Air are bringing the wood! With big ol' palette walls around the catwalk, our selfie wall backdrop, plus the calligraphy wording painted across it, and a few more wood vibes around the show. Check them out for cool furniture and bar hire.

Stationer  Oh Squirrel will be bringing her illustrative fun fonts to signage around the building, including big feisty pennants declaring Bowie lyrics!

Lamplighter London will bring her modern calligraphy to our welcome sign too, look out for it here she is last year doing her thing! And some more of her effortlessly cool work.. Plus she's fitting this in all around the launch of her very own book !

And Bobbin & Bow fresh new wedding decor designers, will provide clean, geometric hanging decos - her contemporary take on polish pajaki chandeliers that we have fallen for. Safe to say there will not be a piece of bunting in sight!

Gorgeous, directional wedding dresses by DANA DALLAL

NEW to the wedding scene for 2016!

Most Curious is all about finding new talent and introducing creative designers bravely taking a leap of faith into the fashion industry.

And we just know you will love the first, exciting, designer bridal wear collection by Dana Dallal Bridal

If you're looking for a modern, fashionable, affordable (yes please!) dress and the option to have it made in a range of colours and prints....then Dana Dallal could be The One for you.

Modern and directional, Dana Dallal's luxury collection was inspired by Dana's own search for a fashionable and modern wedding dress.

She was initially shocked to find how few modern dress options there were for brides who love fashion and set out to create a range of contemporary and fashion forward dresses that are of the highest quality.

Bridal dresses that are strikingly modern yet timeless are winning the brand ever growing interest from magazine editors, stylists and brides.

The collections are designed and produced in London with a focus on high quality and uses only the finest silks and French laces coupled with hand embroidery in glass beads and metallic threads.

The brand believes in creating luxury garments that reject the idea of the traditional bridal ‘costume’ and instead pushes the concept of bridal wear into the contemporary fashion movement.

Talk us through your typical day

Every day is totally different given the small scale of the company. I’m a person who gets bored easily and has to keep moving forward so it’s a great setup for me.

On a typical day I’ll get up around 7am and jump in the shower, I’ll quickly grab the dog and take her out to Lloyd Park behind the William Morris Gallery before settling her back in at home and running of to my day job with a green smoothie in hand.

I work for a well-established womenswear designer during the day so I dash off to work around 9am and spend my day sourcing raw materials, visiting London factories, and managing all the fabric deliveries from Europe and Asia. It’s a really demanding job so I have to try and conserve all the energy I can for DDB but I can’t complain, my day job gives me the experience and contacts I need to create beautiful and luxurious bridal collections.

I do some freelance work as well so if I have something on the books, I’ll try to plan it into my day and make lunch meetings to get the concepts straight.

I recently did two hand paintings on Kurt Geiger London Totes which were features in their ad campaign in August, this was a really exciting project because of the wide exposure it gained.

I remember getting to Heathrow last August and as I walked into the departures area there was a huge poster of Erin O’Conner with the bag I had painted on. I was completely ecstatic!

I literally rushed straight into the Heathrow KG shop with a huge grin on my face and told them I had painted it and they looked at me like I was totally insane! It was a really great moment for me and a true highlight of 2015, second to getting married of course!

When I get home from my day job, I get straight to work and depending on where we are in the season, I’ll find myself designing and creating new styles or fitting existing ones.

We just had our first photoshoot a couple weeks ago and did a fitting right after so this week I’ll be finalising the fit on all of the styles before sending the patterns off to be sized.

It’s a pretty exciting time for us as we get closer to the fair days. In the evening I could be working on anything from costing the gowns, visiting our
London factory or going to appointments with potential clients.

It’s a mix and match and every day is different right now.

I have an amazing group of talented friends that all pitch in when they can. Last weekend my friend from Recipe du Jour catered for the photo shoot and really spoiled us with amazing French cuisine. you can find some of her amazing food on recipeujour.weebly.com. She also runs a homemade jam company Sucre and SalĂ©. It’s Delish!

Who or what is inspiring you right now?

Right now, we are inspired by all the individualism that we are seeing around London and my hometown of Toronto. There are so many people who, like us, are seeking out their goals and dreams and launching a business for themselves.

My best friend Jess and her business partner Kris are a constant source of inspiration, they run a branding firm called Super Fish Brands in Toronto and I’ve seen them grow their business from the first days and keep focused and driven.

It’s really scary going into business for yourself, the costs are really high especially if you choose to launch into the garment industry and it’s a real help when I see young people like myself making it work for them. Seeing other people succeed and tackle their own challenges really helps us keep strong during the rough patches, it keeps our hopes high and drives us forward.

Describe a Dana Dallal bride
The Dana Dallal bride is a contemporary woman who loves to dance and isn’t afraid to kick her heels off!

Layered and fussy dresses just won’t work for her wild abandon when she decides to have fun. She doesn’t fit into a box, she loves fashion and wants a dress as individual as herself.

When I was looking for a wedding dress, I had a really hard time finding something that was to my taste, well made and within my budget. There are some beautiful bridal collections available in London at a reasonable cost but I just couldn’t find something modern and fashion conscious so that’s what I set out to do.

We offer brides, beautiful modern dresses that are contemporary and made to the same standards as a luxury fashion label but don’t cost an utter fortune.

We also offer our brides the ability to order their dress in a range of colours and prints. I wore cornflower blue to my wedding!

Dana Dallal is exhibiting at our London wedding show so get your tickets now and don't miss out on this gorgeous collection.
